Some Serious Taiko

As much as I enjoy and love the “Voices of Liberty” in the American Adventure Pavilion, ultimately my favorite live entertainment of Epcot's World Showcase are these Taiko drummers. Much like the Voices of Liberty performances, Matsuriza is about as immersive as an experience gets. Instantly you are transformed to old world Japan... and I just love the sound of those drums.
I could have gone one of two ways for this exposure. I could have decreased the aperture and shot this with a touch of motion blur... or I could have shot it “wide open” creating the shallow depth of field and freezing the action. Obviously I chose to freeze the action and I'm happy with the results.

Feel the thunderous sound of Matsuriza as they perform Taiko—a time-honored form of drumming. Catch this stirring, 15-minute Japanese drum show on the main stage at the Japan Pavilion's 5-story pagoda at Epcot theme park.
Founded by Takemasa Ishikura in 1998, this percussion troupe performs both traditional arrangements and its own compositions at locales around the world. Using handmade drums that range in height from 6 inches to 6 feet, the drummers create a unique synchronized booming rhythm that can be heard—and enjoyed—by Guests from quite a distance away.
