My husband did scrape the plastic trim against a high concrete curb once, but that's not why it looks like this.
Every day before he goes to work and again when he comes home, he feeds his squirrels. He's done it for years, and generations of them have grown up knowing that the biped always has peanuts. They know the sound of his car, and they come running right to him like a Disney cartoon come to life. To save himself a trip into the house each time, he just keeps their peanuts in the car. Last year, they chewed a wire that broke the air conditioning, and until I saw this, I thought that was just a fluke. It wasn't; they know their peanuts are in the car, and although they cannot get through metal, they did find a place on the scraped-rough edge of the plastic where they could start chewing.
Peanuts are henceforth known as "extortion currency". He'll get the piece replaced, but it's still funny because I get to say, "Hon, don't forget to feed your furry extortionists or they'll eat your car!" That's not a sentence most people ever get to use. Heh.
