I was sharing a room with Micha's brother Steve at a bed and breakfast, but he wasn't arriving until Friday, and I arrived Thursday. 1) I'm cheap and 2) I'm poor, so rather than foot the bill for an extra night at the B&B on my own for the first night, I opted for a bed at the local hostel. It ended up working out really well, they had a massive locker I could put both my bags away in, and while it appeared to be coin operated, the coin-op was disabled, so I just accessed my bags at my leisure without having to plug in quarters every time I needed to get in there.
And no, they don't ask how old you are when you check in.

Anywhere but Bangkok, this seems the cheapest, quickest and best way to travel in Thai cities / towns. That squinty guy is Tee, our tour leader (stuck with seven ladies up north and five down south, some of whom - ahem - stayed out until all hours with Thai helicopter pilots and tattoo artists, disturbed him in the bath to have bee stingers pulled out of their necks and forced him to share several bottles of Song Sam rum - he's practically a saint for having survived: after this trip, he took a well-deserved break for Songkran, the Thai New Year / Massive Water Fight Festival up in Chiang Mai. Thanks Tee, you helped make it a superlatively fabulous vacation)
