Grass Carp in Gainer Springs

A school of about 9 of these huge Grass Carp inhibit the spring. These are non-native species, and are apparently introduced in many places for vegetation control. These fish are big, over 3 feet long and at least as thick as a football. Surprisingly, they are also very fast, and dart out of sight if they don't see you first.

A white egret eyeing some breakfast at the outflow of a tidal control gate in Bayfront Park, Menlo Park (even though flickr's geolocation places it in Redwood City), CA. He/she has their eye on a small fish in the water.
