Train Meal
In so many of my lengthy trips, I've always taken meals above 30,000 ft. That's -- like having my meals more than 9 kilometers above ground -- work, eat and sleep at that altitude. And I get it for free.
This time, I'm a little on a personal vacation -- and on the ground. Lets just say, the train is cheaper -- and I need to see things from the ground -- and to slow things down. Some of the trains even have internet, and power supply for your drained laptop batteries. A meal in this fast moving train in Europe is not an everyday experience -- have taken meals over Europe above the clouds -- but on the train is rare. Some chicken, carrots and rice, coffee and water. Not a bad meal. And northern Italy is just an hour away. Despite the rains, the Adriatic Sea looms in the horizon.
The Southern European countryside offers a good view. I've planned the trip carefully, from the Sun's angle on the horizon in this part of the world, the sunset and sunrise at this time, the trains, the time -- but there's always something that you can't plan ahead(months ahead) -- the springtime weather of Europe. Out came the rain -- disrupting the view.

Today marks the start of our two week countdown until our next visit to Walt Disney World! I'm really excited about this vacation to celebrate Carrie's college graduation for several reasons.
First, we'll be at WDW from May 22 - 25, which is always awesome. Then, Disney stepped it up for us with the 24 hour day on the 24th! Next we drive to Fort Lauderdale on the 26th for a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Allure of the Seas. And, to finish things off (and break up the drive home), we're making a quick stop back at WDW on June 2. I can't wait for the trip, and if anyone else is going to be at WDW during the days we are there, let me know (and, especially for the 24 hour day)!
Now for today's image, you may remember my Obscure Pirates shot a little while back. I was challenging myself to shoot things in Pirates besides the iconic scenes. Inspiration for this one, however, goes to Cory DIsbrow. When trying to decide if I should upgrade to the 5D3, Cory was nice enough to send me some RAW files to play with, and a shot of this guy was one of them (although his was framed much tighter and taken with the amazing 135mm f/2 Canon lens).
I'm loving the 5D3 for dark rides, and the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 is surprisingly good for this application. Now I really want a wider prime to go with it and I'm torn between the cheaper Canon 50mm f/1.4 and the more expensive Sigma 35mm f/1.4 which is getting glowing reviews. As happy as I am with the 85mm, I think the Sigma may be in the lead, but we'll see...

SAD DAY. I have posted my beloved Tokina wide-angle lens for sale on eBay. There are few things I would sell this for, but unrepeatable life experiences are one of those things. I will use the money from this lens to vacation in Perth, hopefully volunteer on Rottnest Island, and perhaps buy a cheap old film camera.
Will I live to regret this? Possibly. Will I get another wide-angle lens. YES.
Here are my following justifications in an attempt to cheer myself up:
1. It's just a THING.
2. It is my only DX lens, and I can say I'm preparing for the full-frame upgrade. (Chyeah...)
3. The challenge of being stuck with the 35-70mm will force me to be creative in ways I otherwise might not be.
So there.
