Cadbury’s laundry check

Bournville village and factory was a social and industrial experiment. Motivated by their Quaker beliefs and keen business sense, Richard and George Cadbury relocated their factory from Bull Street to Bournbrook in 1879. George Cadbury believed the social and moral welfare of the factory worker was the responsibility of the employer. Leisure, education and welfare facilities were as important as improving the working environment.

Western Sydney Awards In Business Excellence Gets Bodypaint,

Today hundreds of Western Sydney based business people attended the annual Western Sydney Awards In Business Excellence to celebrate their successes.

The venue was the impressive Waterview Convention Center, located in Bicentennial Park.

We were surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens, lakes and ponds.

My company, Human Statue BodyArt, was contracted by the Parramatta based Gyrate agency to deliver a human statue model bodypainted in the official colours of this years business awards - light blue, dark blue and white. As they say, a picture tells a thousand words, so be sure to check out the photographs of our creation here.

Our model for the day was the delightful Anastasiya Bakss and I was assisted by talented bodypainter Tony Cantali.

The end result of our creation was a human statue that complimented the awards theme, and one that tuned heads, raised eyebrows, and became quite the conversation piece as the otherwise rather conservative business people present got a close up look at bodypainting with a branding tie in, complete with an exhibition component.

Our friends at Fairfax Media (The Parramatta Sun) were also present. Stay tuned for a complete list of awards winners, but its safe to say that anyone who witnessed our bodypainted creation today also felt like a winner.

The organisers were delighted with the way everything went, and we're looking forward to continuing to work and collaborating with them again very shortly.

Business should incorporate fun, and we're glad to have done our modest little bit to tantalise and delight today.

Now I am going to cover some of the myths of a website and why it's needed and all of that jizz-jazz. I will be doing these as vlogs and then leveraging it out into all kinds of different things.

So if I blank out, it's probably because I am trying to be safe. But all of this is setup nicely so I don't have to touch it. And I've done it before and it works out pretty nicely. Don't try this at home kids unless you're a trained professional or something like that.

HAMILTON CITY HALL AND ARTS CENTRE (9)

Local office worker in Bermuda business clothes walks past local artist Bill Ming's sculpture, Family Circle, in the atrium of Hamilton City Hall and Arts Centre.

During the day, the atrium is used as a short-cut as there is a door to the streets outside both to L and R of this view. I wish the background in this shot was sharper, but I had to grab my chance and didn't have time to check my camera settings.

Although similar clothing is worn in some other parts of the world, the characteristics of Bermuda business attire are (according to Wikipedia): "shorts made of suit-like material and worn with knee-length socks, a dress shirt, tie, and blazer." Shorts of this length everywhere, whether casual or smart, now seem be called universally 'Bermuda shorts', so it seems that along with Bermuda rig of sailing boats, this is something that Bermuda gave the rest of the world.

The City Hall was completed in 1960. It is the the seat of the City of Hamilton's corporation. It is also the Bermuda National Gallery and home of the Bermuda Society of Arts. It has a theatre for stage, music, and dance productions. The art gallery and exhibitions, many of them devoted to works by local as well as visiting artists, are free to the public and always worth visiting. The architect was Wil Onions, local to Bermuda. His hallmark was revival of local vernacular 'cottage' style, though this is less obvious here as the scale is grander. The staircase is made of endemic Bermuda cedar (Juniperus bermudiana Linnaeus).

Wikipedia gives a useful summary of Bermuda's distinctive traditional architecture.

Hamilton city (not to be confused with Hamilton Parish) is in Pembroke Parish and is the capital of Bermuda.
